About Homies
A small kitchen on Koh Samui with one obsession: the perfect smashburger.
From Sushi Masters to Smash Masters
Homies is Kaori and Tho — a two-person team, in the kitchen and everywhere else. Kaori is a sushi master from Japan who moved to Berlin; Tho is Thai and grew up in Germany. They met in the same Berlin sushi restaurant, where Tho earned his own sushi mastery and later ran the place. Years of Japanese kitchen craft shaped how they cook: precision, patience, and respect for every single ingredient.
Off duty, it was always burgers. Grilling for friends and family became a passion, and their burgers earned a reputation of their own. After Covid they knew it was time for a place of their own — Tho's roots are in Thailand, and one look at Samui settled it. Then came countless hours of testing recipes, baking buns and hunting down the best ingredients, until everything was exactly right.
The katsu sando on the menu? That's the sushi years saying hello.
It Starts With the Bun
Most burger places buy their buns. We bake ours — soft, golden and slightly sweet, fresh in our own kitchen. It's more work, but it's the foundation of every burger we serve.
Then comes the beef: 100% Australian, hand-formed into pucks and smashed onto a screaming-hot griddle so the edges go crispy and lacy while the center stays juicy.
Smashed to Order
Nothing at Homies sits under a heat lamp. Your burger hits the griddle when you order it — onions pressed into the patty, cheese melted right on top, sauces made in-house.
That's why there's smoke in our photos. That's the sound and the smell of a real smashburger kitchen.
